About

Heart Strings

Hey Guys, Welcome to Heart Strings Projects – Te Taurahere Whatumanawa

Our journey for us has been amazing the many blessings from God we have encountered along the way have been overwhelming. Our project started as a pilot programme for this community and has now become the centre of our town and community. Word has spread far and wide about our project and we feel that we started a ripple effect. We feel very humbled from all the support we have been given and would encourage anyone to take on the challenge in their own community.

Our Covenant

We promise to CARE and SHARE with one another. No one to be excluded

Our mission for the Heart Strings Project is to reduce poverty in Taneatua & surrounding rural communities through the provision of budgeting advice, growing local food for local people, and putting whanau at the centre and believing in their potential.  To create opportunities for food security through the development of community gardens and social enterprise initiatives to benefit the vulnerable and socially disadvantaged children, young people, and their families.

We value being the Kaitiaki of the land, and seeing the ripple effect of demonstrating God’s aroha.

Description of project:

To reduce poverty in the Eastern Bay of Plenty rural communities through the provision of budgeting advice (debt management) and the creation of opportunities for sustainable and viable food security to benefit the vulnerable and socially disadvantaged children, young people and their families.

Our local champions:

Tamiana and Honey Thrupp have lived in Taneatua for a number of years and know first-hand the importance of this project. Tamiana has been the Amorangi for the Waimana Pastorate for the past 9 years. They felt a calling to a new ministry and were appointed to this project.

To have our team, work with a small group of volunteers who are well connected in the local community and have a vision to develop walk alongside families and encourage them to grow their own food through community gardens and their local backyards.

To assist with the growing of sustainable crops that bring in revenue, provide food and opportunities for youth in particular to learn practical skills. To work with young people and inspire them to become the guardians of such initiatives which can be developed as small social enterprises.

To offer a safe inclusive space for local people in the bay of plenty, by providing the best produce, educating people, feeding one another, and showing the ripple effect of God’s aroha.
